In 1972, HRH Princess Sarvath El Hassan was asked to take over the Young Muslim Women’s Association. At that time, it was located in a small house in the Sports City area of Amman. There were only a few young ladies learning basic typing and sewing skills. In a few short years, HRH Princess Sarvath El Hassan changed it. After seeing the lack of education for children with special needs in Jordan HRH Princess Sarvath El Hassan established the YMWA Centre for Special Education (later known as Bunayat Centre for Special Education) in 1974, and that was followed by the Princess Sarvath Community College in 1980 which served the needs of underprivileged girls wanting to enter the workforce.
